Some facts and statistics on the database:

Current database version is 2.0. Caspases and substrates sequences are retrieved from Uniprot KnowledgeBase (comprising of SWISS-PROT version 50.0 and TrEMBL version 33.0).

There are 81 caspases sequences distributed among 24 different organism types.


We have collected 322 substrate sequences categorized into 23 different functional groups (proposed by U Fischer et al 2003 PMID:12655297). Of the 322 sequences , 283 were extracted from Fischer (2003), and 39 were extracted from recent literature. Of all caspase substrates, 250 were reported to be involved in apoptosis. Currently, about 50 substrates are being cross-checked for errors-these substrates will be added to the database in the next update (~July 2006).
